about

Priory Church Film Club is proud to present for the first time anywhere the soundtrack to the rarely seen but legendary horror, "Cleaver Cleaver Chop Chop" Written, produced and directed by the cult underground figure Tony Lapel.

The soundtrack was the work of Chubby Reid a brilliant composer who worked freelance for many of the big music librarys including KPM and De Wolfe in the 60's, 70's and early 80's. Chubby's numerous tv credits include UFO, The Persuaders, The Baron, Bouquet of Barbed Wire, Agony, For The Love of Ada, Budgie and many more. He moved into ad work in the 80's scoring well over a thousand jingles and incidental music for everything from toilet cleaner and vacuum cleaners to shares in British Gas, Prit-stick and Apples. His film work includes Countess Dracula, Digby, Strip Nude for Your Killer, Wilt, Torso and many more.

His best work though was for the soundtracks he made to accompany the clutch of films Tony Lapel released in the mid to late 70's. Although very well regarded, they have never been made commercially available, although bootlegs have been circulating for a number of years. The masters to the soundtrack have long since vanished but luckily Chubby always pressed a small amount of vinyl copies of his soundtrack work to distribute among friends, family and colleagues. And it is from one of those vinyl recordings that this album has been taken.

Because of the nature of the source material, the sound quality is understandably not up to todays standards but we only think that adds to the atomsphere!

The film by the way was screened only in Tony Lapel's chain of cinema's in London circa 1978/79, only shown on late night television twice in the early nineties and has never been released on video or DVD anywhere in the world. The film also erroneously boasts such stars as Patrick Magnee, Julian Glover, Ingrid Pitt and Valerie Leon. It doesn't. They were cameos, albeit unwitting cameos, at best. They were all filmed walking up the red carpet for a gala screening of "The Wild Geese" and then surreptitiously inserted into the finished film as guests arriving at a wild dinner party given by the deranged truck stop owner Gary Valentine, only to be grisly dispatched soon after. Tony Lapel was never one to pass up on an advertising opportunity and displayed their names prominently on the poster. Michael Hordern however did star.

If you were one of the few who did manage to see it then this soundtrack will bring back all the chilling, gory details, as Toby says in the film; "So much flesh to stab at, so much skin and bones to cleave, oh the blood, oh ALL the lovely, oozing BLOOD...oh You'll remember tonight my dear for as long as you live, however long THAT my be HAHAHAHAHA!!"
